BRUNSWICK — The Medina County OVI Task Force will conduct a sobriety checkpoint today, beginning at 3 p.m., on U.S. Route 42 (Pearl Road), north of state Route 303, in the city of Brunswick.
The checkpoint will held in conjunction with nearby saturation patrols to aggressively combat impaired driver related injury and fatal crashes, said Brunswick Police Lt. Brian Ohlin, commander of the task force.
The OVI checkpoint, funded by federal grant funds, is designed to deter and intercept impaired drivers.
This is the third checkpoint this year, with more planned in the near future.
Under federal law, police are required to announce checkpoints to avoid violating the Fourth Amendment, which protects against unlawful search and seizure.
