Medina Township will host its fifth annual Flag Day celebration Saturday.
New this year, residents will have a chance to vote on a flag for the township from five finalists, show at left, in the township’s flag design contest.
The event will be 4 to 5 p.m. at the Medina Township Maintenance Building in Blakslee Park, 3718 Weymouth Road.
This year’s keynote speaker will be Medina County Common Pleas Judge James L. Kimbler. The Medina Community Band will perform as well.
Jeannine Nicholson, a Medina resident who crossed the finish line at the Boston Marathon just before the bombing, will speak and members of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5137 will present colors.
Winners of the fourth-grade flag essay contest will read their essays, and they will be presented with commendations from House Speaker William G. Batchelder, R-Medina, and Secretary of State Jon Husted.
After the ceremony, attendees can enjoy Italian food donated by Santosuossos.
