Local students to get political at Boys, Girls State

Twenty-five seniors-to-be from area high schools are among the 1,250 boys participating in the 77th annual session of Buckeye Boys State at Bowling Green State University.

Students from Buckeye, Highland and Medina comprise eight of the 900 girls who will participate in the 67th annual session of Buckeye Girls State at Mount Union University.

Boys State began Sunday and ends June 16. Girls State runs June 16 to 22.

Boys State is a practical approach to the study of government in the United States at the state, county and city level. In one week, selected delegates from all over Ohio gather at Bowling Green to set up a mock government that mirrors the structure of the state government.

Delegates run for various offices from the state to the city level and then carry out the duties that come with those positions.

Boys State is a hands-on learning experience that teaches leadership, responsible citizenship, the political process and instills the traditions of the United States.

American Legion Post 202 in Medina, Medina Eagles Lodge 2224, Medina Noon Kiwanis Club, Breakfast Rotary Club, Medina Rotary Club, Morning Kiwanis Club and the Feckley Foundation are sponsoring the following students to Boys State:
