Douglas M. Gottron

Douglas M. “Doc” Gottron, 97, of Spencer, passed away peacefully in his sleep, Wednesday, June 12, 2013. He was born in Cleveland, September 11, 1915, to the late Franklin and Marion (Smith) Gottron.

He graduated from Cornell University with a degree in Agriculture and married the late Helen Greifnieder in 1939. Doc taught Agriculture for 40 years in Spencer, Homerville and at Black River High School and is remembered fondly by many of his students to this day.

Surviving are three children, Helen Ceci (Bryan McDermott), Douglas (Rene’) Gottron, Jr., Rose (Pierre) Buetikofer; grandchildren, Gabriel (Katrina) Ceci, Kristi (Brian) Drab, Stephanie (Jacob) Sutter; great grandchildren, Logan, Kelsey and Natasha, as well as many nieces and nephews; and sister, Marion Clark.

He was much loved by all of his care-givers.

Doug was a loving husband and father, a generous neighbor, farmer, teacher, mentor and a good friend to too many people to list here who will continue to cherish his memory and live by his example.

A memorial celebration will be held Sunday, June 23, 2013, at 2 P.M., at the Spencer United Methodist Church, 201 East Main St., Spencer. Reverend Dr. Tim Morrison will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of the Western Reserve, 300 East 185th St., Cleveland, OH 44119.
