MEDINA — The Medina County flag is back up in front of the new courthouse.
The Gazette reported Friday that the flag’s designer, Calvin Ganyard, 89, was wondering why his flag was flying in front of most county buildings, but not at the courthouse.
The flag was back up that day.
“When I went by Friday about noon, the flag was flying,” Ganyard said. “I was glad they put it back up.”
County Commissioner Pat Geissman said she wasn’t sure why the courthouse stopped flying the flag.
“Somewhere along the line it just failed to be put back up,” she said. “When it was brought to the county’s attention, we just put it back up.”
Geissman said it was possible that the two flags were creating stress on the flag pole or the flag had gotten raggedy and was not replaced.
“I suppose if I had designed the flag, too, I would wonder — ‘My flags are up everywhere but the courthouse, why wasn’t it up there?’ ”
Ganyard, of Medina Township, won the competition to design a flag for the county in 1990.
