300 vehicles stopped in 3-hour checkpoint

MEDINA — An OVI checkpoint on Friday netted one OVI arrest, 35 traffic citations and 31 warnings.

The checkpoint in the 900 block of West Liberty Street and nearby saturation patrols on state Routes 18, 3 and 57 and U.S. Route 42 included officers from Brunswick, Medina and Wadsworth, and Brunswick Hills, Hinckley, Montville and Medina townships.

One motorist stopped by a saturation patrol for driving without headlights also was charged with OVI and provided a blood alcohol sample of 0.127.

In two other stops, an 18-year-old passenger was charged with underage possession of alcohol and a 42-year-old was cited for drug abuse, possession of drug paraphernalia and an open container of alcohol.

The checkpoint was the fourth this year for the Medina County OVI Task Force.

During the three-hour checkpoint, 300 vehicles were checked.
