Debra Kay Van Blarcum

Debra Kay Van Blarcum, loving wife, daughter, sister, aunt and friend passed away Sunday, June 16, 2013. Deb was born March 31, 1958 in Maryville Tennessee.

Debra was a highly regarded Certified Emergency Nurse at Akron City Hospital Emergency department. Her 16 years Emergency experience touched many lives in a professional, compassionate manner. Along with nine years of floor nurse at Summa, Debra also had nursing experience at Parma Community, Marymount and Saint Thomas Medical Center.

A graduate of Saint Thomas School of Nursing, she also attended Kent State and The University of Akron. Debra also was a Licensed Practical Nurse prior to her RN education. Debra was the beloved wife of Mark Van Blarcum. The couple celebrated their 30th anniversary on May 14th.

Debra was an active member of The Key to My Father’s House Church. Debra, along with Mark and her dogs, loved to camp, walk the beach, ride mountain bikes and garden. An excellent cook, many of the dishes she created were from her abundant garden. She loved to spoil her dogs as they were always by her side during her valiant five year battle with Ovarian Cancer. For the benefit of all women, Debra utilized her clinical knowledge and passion for life to be an active participant in several clinical trials at Summa and University Hospitals.

Debra is survived by her husband, Mark; parents, Charles and Joyce Cornett; brothers, Bill (Stacey), Adam (Cynthia); nieces, Raelynn and Rhianna; nephews, Billy, Dexter, and Maxon. Debra’s surviving in-laws include her mother-in-law, Lois Van Blarcum; brothers-in-law, Ron and Curt; sister-in-law, Cindy; nephews, Brad and Miles; and nieces, Lauren and Cayenne.

Family will receive friends Wednesday, June 19, 2013 from 5 to 8 P.M. at Cox Funeral Home, 1376 High St. (one mile N of I-76 on Rt. 94) in Wadsworth. Funeral Service will be held 11 A.M., Thursday, June 20, 2013 at The Key to My Father’s House Church, 1825 W. Reimer Road, Wadsworth, OH 44281. Pastor Gary Oliver will officiate. Burial will follow at River Styx cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to either Hospice of Medina County or the Medina County SPCA.
