PHOTO: Ohio Nationals Competition starts its engines

Jerry Johns of Meridianville, Ala., has been building cars since he was 18 years old. Here he stands with his 1932 Roadster pickup in Medina’s Public Square during Thursday’s kickoff of the Ohio Nationals Competition. Johns said he built the Roadster from scratch. Johns said the lifestyle that comes with maintaining these cars is addictive. “I get high off of working on and driving these kinds of cars,” he said. General admission to the event, which will be at the Medina County Fairgrounds, is $5 per adult and will run 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and Saturday. (GAZETTE PHOTO BY ANDREW DAVIS)
