Stephen Alexius Kuzyk, Sr., 93, of Chippewa Lake, passed away Saturday, June 22, 2013 at the Inn at CoalRidge in Wadsworth. He was born March 22, 1920 in Cleveland, to Harry and Anna (nee Terebuch) Kuzyk, the youngest of three children.
He grew up in the Tremont neighborhood of Cleveland and graduated from Lincoln High School prior to serving in the United States Army Air Corp. during World War II. After serving in India, he returned home and married his high school sweetheart, Ednarita (nee Piorkowski) on May 3, 1945. They had three children, Laura Tripp of Cleveland, Stephen (Marilyn) Kuzyk, Jr. of Westfield Township and Robert (Melissa) Kuzyk of Rocky River. Stephen and Ednarita recently celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary.
Stephen spent his career as a floor covering salesman, traveling northern Ohio for 54 years. He loved to be around people and enjoyed meeting up with his customers and friends he made along the way. During his retirement, he would often visit Cleveland’s Ukrainian Village. He also spent much of his time with his four grandchildren. The beloved “Grampy” to Lauren, Steve, Alexa and Max Kuzyk, he became an integral and valuable part of their daily lives. Grampy was often seen cheering them on at their various school activities. His energy and sociable spirit will be missed by all.
Stephen was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Michael; his sister, Mary; and son-in-law, Kerry Tripp.
The family will receive friends Thursday, June 27, 2013 from 11 A.M. to 1 P.M. at Waite & Son Funeral Home, 765 N. Court St., Medina. Service will be held at 1 P.M. followed by a graveside service at 2 P.M. at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, 10175 Rawiga Road, Rittman, with full Military Honors.
