Robert H. Abbey, 78, a resident of Grafton for the past 14 years, died June 26, 2013 at Medina Hospital with his loving family by his side. He was born April 3, 1935 in Akron, to the late Earl and Catherine (nee Christopher) Abbey.
A 1953 graduate of Akron South High School, Robert earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from the University of Akron. He began his 38 year career in education at Brunswick High School in 1959. In 1965 he began at Columbia High School, where he retired as a guidance counselor in 1997. Robert was voted Counselor of the year in Ohio in 1977.
He was a member of Our Lady, Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Grafton. In his free time, Robert enjoyed taking casino trips, especially to West Virginia.
Surviving him are his loving wife, Carol Scarl-Abbey; daughters, Renee (Harry) Dempsey, Michele (Doug) Adamczyk and Nicole (Doug) Kuch; grandchildren, Dean and Jacob Adamczyk, Calvin Dempsey, Lauren and Andrew Kuch and Megan and Patrick James Scarl; “sis and bro”, Luetta and Jennings Mosely; and caregivers, Brenda and Tom Lindenberger.
Visitation will be Sunday, June 30, 2013 from 2 to 4 P.M. in the Bogner Family Funeral Home, 36625 Center Ridge Road, North Ridgeville, where funeral services will be held at 11 A.M., Monday, July 1, 2013. The Rev. John Seabold will preside and burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Grafton.
