The Medina County Performing Arts Foundation presents the Fred Hargrove Young Artist’s production of Disney’s “Little Mermaid, Jr.”
The production, based on the Hans Christian Andersen story and the film produced by Howard Ashman and John Musker, is a story of the beautiful young mermaid, Ariel, who longs to leave her ocean home to live in the world above. First, she will have to defy her father, King Triton, make a deal with the evil sea witch Ursula, and convince Prince Eric that she is the girl with the beautiful, enchanting voice.
This is the third annual youth theater production featuring area youth.
“I have been looking forward to doing this production for a year,” director Ansley Valentine said. “The kids are very talented and will do an excellent job with the production. We keep growing the production each year. Our goal is to provide the best educational theater experience we can.”
The cast features youth actors Molly Ryan as Ariel, Kristen Lyons as Flotsam, Nataley Davis as Flounder, Brandon Thompson as Grimsby, Zoe Alberts as Jetsam, Matt Levigne as King Triton, Liam Kerr as Prince Eric, Zoe Locasio as Scuttle, Claire Schmeller as Sebastian and BeBe Ciupak as Ursula.
Valentine is joined by choreographer Rachel Fettinger; music director Michelle Hujar; set design, David Tidwell; light design, Jody Tidwell; and prop design, Jacob Barbot.
“The gracious support of the Medina County Arts Foundation has made the world of difference to our program. We have more funds to bring in more professional staff to work with the children,” Valentine said.
Performances will be 7 p.m. July 12 and 13 and 2 p.m. July 14 at the Medina Performing Arts Center Middle Stage, at 851 Weymouth Road, Medina. Tickets for the 90-minute show are $5 and can be purchased at the door or by calling the Performing Arts Center box office at (330) 636-3400.
