Married couple charged with growing pot

MEDINA — A Granger Township couple pleaded not guilty Monday to growing marijuana in their home.

John P. Staub, 63, and Erin P. Staub, 49, of 1818 Wilbur Road, are charged with illegal cultivation of marijuana — third-degree felonies punishable by up to three years in prison.

Medina County Drug Task Force agents executed a search warrant at the couple’s home and reported finding just more than 3 pounds of marijuana plants in an “active grow.”

A drug task force spokesman declined to say exactly how many plants were found.

The Staubs are scheduled for an Oct. 16 trial.

They are free on 10 percent of a $35,000 bond each.

County Common Pleas Judge Christopher J. Collier placed them on a drug-monitoring program. If they fail drug tests, their bonds could be revoked.

Time to legalize and regulate. Stop this insanity of threatening people with years in prison.
