She attended Ohio Wesleyan University and Flora Stone Mather College and earned her Master’s Degree in Nursing from the Francis Payne Bolton School of Nursing at Case Western Reserve. After graduation Mrs. Benson was presented the Linda Richards Achievement Award for Nursing. She continued nursing until her marriage to the late Dr. Jerrel Ward Benson in 1950 when she remained home to raise her family. She loved to read, garden, sew and knit but her family always continued to be her most precious priority.
Mrs. Benson is survived by her sons, David Scott (Rhonda) Benson of West Chester, Ohio, Dr. Mark Alan (Kate) Benson of Glendale, Arizona, Dr. Daniel Ward (Kelly) Benson of Sylvania, Ohio; daughter, Laura Jane (Larry) Szekely of Granger Township; grandchildren, Erin, Kendra (Jon), Keith, Meghan, Sarah, Matthew, Martha and Caroline; and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Dr. Jerrel Ward Benson, MD in 2008; her parents; her brothers, Edward, Michael and Louis Krempa; and her sisters, Sophie Kar, Edna Balliette and Nell Kolb.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Western Reserve Masonic Community for the compassionate and professional care given to Mrs. Benson over the past two years.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, July 17, 2013 at Holy Martyrs Catholic Church, 3100 S. Weymouth Road, Medina at 10 A.M. Rev. Stephen J. Dohner will officiate. The Family will receive friends at the Waite & Son Funeral Home, 765 N. Court St., Medina, Tuesday, July 16, 2013 from 4 to 8 P.M. and one hour prior to the Mass on Wednesday at church. Entombment will be at All Saints Cemetery in Northfield.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Hospice of Medina Co., 5075 Windfall Rd., Medina, OH 44256.
