Helen J. Riske, of Chippewa Lake, passed away Tuesday, July 30, 2013 after a period of declining health. She was one of nine children born to Jacob S. and Pelagia Drost (nee Apanowicz) in Wilcox, Pennsylvania. Mrs. Riske moved with a sister to Cleveland, where she met and married William G. Riske.
She worked with her husband, co-owner and co-founder of Chippewa Meats, until their retirement in 1980. She was an active member of the community including the Girl Scouts, where she served as Troop Leader. After her retirement, she enjoyed baking, dancing of all kinds, bowling, traveling with her husband and spending time with her family. She was an avid rose gardener and a skilled crochet artist winning first prizes in both areas at Medina County Fairs. Mrs. Riske was an active member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Medina and enjoyed working with her family at Brad’s Sausage at various county fairs.
Her family mourns her passing and will remember her as a loving wife and mother, and a strong woman of compassion and intelligence.
She is survived by daughters, Carolann (Roger) Brockett of Lexington, Massachusetts and Deborah Williamson of Duluth, Georgia; son, Jerome Riske of Chippewa Lake; five grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and many loved nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and siblings.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 A.M., Saturday, August 3, 2013 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 606 E. Washington St., Medina. The Rev. Thomas Stock will officiate. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery. Visiting hours will be from 4 to 7 P.M., Friday, August 2, 2013 at Waite & Son Funeral Homes, Medina Chapel, 765 N. Court St.
