Katie Owen’s cow may have come in second in the show competition at the Medina County Fair, but the Holstein still is getting a lot of attention in the dairy barn.
It weighs more than a ton.
“She weighs about 2,200 pounds,” Katie, 13, said.
The cow was raised on her family’s farm, H.B. Owen and Son in Homer Township.
At eights months pregnant — she’s due Sept. 7 — the animal is on the larger end of the spectrum for Holsteins.
Katie said her cow already has given birth to four calves, each weighing around 100 pounds.
