First Baptist Church will hold its sixth annual “Service on the Square” at 10 a.m. Sunday. Not only is the church commemorating its 180th anniversary, it is celebrating a new senior pastor.
The Rev. John McCaw, of Canton, assumed his new role as senior pastor at First Baptist Church on Sunday. He fills the vacancy left by former senior pastor Mark Milioni, who left in 2012 to become president of Baptist Bible College in Springfield, Mo.
McCaw is a graduate of Cedarville University and holds a master’s degree in divinity from Grand Rapids Theological Seminary. His past experience includes two years as senior pastor of Grove Bible Church in St. Johns, Mich., and eight years as worship pastor at Canton Baptist Temple, where he coordinated the adult Bible fellowship program and provided teacher training, discipleship and counseling.
He and his family — wife LaVonna and four young sons, Benjamin, Ethan, Isaac and Levi — plan to move from Canton to Medina in the near future.
McCaw is looking forward to the outdoor service.
“This will be an exciting way to publicly worship God in the heart of our community,” he said. “Who says that church always has to be in a building? Come and join us on the square.”
The community is invited to celebrate with First Baptist Church for “Service on the Square,” which will include live music from the worship band, an encouraging message from the pastor, a free lunch on the square and inflatables from “Great2Inflate” for kids (parents must be present).
