During World War II Edith worked as an airplane riveter at Chrysler’s DeSoto factory in Detroit. She later worked at the Bowman Dairy Company in Cleveland making ice cream, and then at the Woolen Mill in Cleveland. In Medina she worked in the circulation department of the Medina County
Gazette, where she retired in 1981. She loved gardening and spending time outdoors. She also enjoyed cooking, especially traditional Italian dishes that she learned from her parents who emigrated from near L’Aquila, Italy. She led an active and independent life until shortly before her death.
Edith is survived by her son, Gregory P. Hood of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; and by her sister, Clelia Serra of Detroit, Michigan; also numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul J. Hood; her sister, Mary Slaga; and by brothers, Dominic, Alfred, Eugene and Amedeo Defelice.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, August 27, 2013 from 6 to 8 P.M. at Waite & Son Funeral Home, 765 N. Court St., Medina. A service will be held at 2:30 P.M. on Wednesday, August 28, 2013 at the funeral home. Fr. Tony Sejba of St. Francis Xavier will preside over services. Burial will follow at St. Francis Xavier Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
