A new FirstEnergy substation is online at Wadsworth Road near Interstate 71 in Montville Township.

The $2.1 million substation was built to enhance service in a growing area and for the grid at-large.

“Ultimately, any project that you do that makes any part of your grid stronger, it helps the entire grid,” FirstEnergy spokesman Mark Durbin said.

The new substation is part of a $275 million investment by Ohio Edison in 2013 designed to strengthen the electrical system in its northern and central Ohio service areas.

Major projects include completing three new substations, enhancing circuits and substations, inspecting and replacing utility poles, and conducting ongoing vegetation management programs.
