Brunswick Police search for stabbing suspect

Karl Phelps

BRUNSWICK — Police are looking for a 27-year-old homeless man they believe stabbed another man earlier this afternoon.

The victim told police he was stabbed by Karl M. Phelps behind the Buehler’s Shopping Center on Center Road, said Brunswick Police spokesperson Nick Solar. The police sealed off the Brunswick Lake area and believe Phelps is hiding in the wooded area surrounding the lake.

Solar said Phelps weighs about 170 pounds and has brown eyes and brown hair. He was last seen wearing a white shirt and white pants.

Solar said he couldn’t yet give out any more details about the stabbing, including how the two men knew each other and what may have caused the incident. Police are encouraging residents not to approach the man if they think they have located him, but rather to call police at (330) 225-9111 and report his location.
