Man accused of viewing child porn in home daycare

BRUNSWICK — A George Drive man was arrested and charged Wednesday with downloading child pornography in the home he shared with his mother, who operated a day care out of the home.

Brunswick police served a search warrant at 2010 George Drive on Wednesday morning following an investigation by the Ohio Crimes Against Children Task Force.

Brandon Price

After the search, Brandon T.G. Price, 26, was arrested and charged with illegal use of a minor in nudity-oriented material or performance, said Nick Solar, the Police Department’s public information officer.

Solar said Price’s offenses primarily concerned the use of “commercial pornography” obtained through the Internet.

Solar said Price’s mother was operating a day care out of the home, and search teams found eight children when the warrant was served.

It does not appear the children from the day care were involved in any of the pornography, he said.

“The children were in the basement part of the house,” Solar said. “As far as we know, they weren’t ever in part of the living area of the house.”

Parents were notified, Solar said, and they arrived to pick up their children.

Brunswick Chief Building Official Dan Gladish said his office has sent a notice to the homeowners, John and Sharon Price, asking them to cease the operation of an “unlicensed day care operation.”

Gladish said child-care providers with six or fewer children are not required to register their business with the county.

“If you are registered, they do a criminal background check on everyone in the home,” he said. “They also do two inspections a year to make sure the home is safe.”

Since Price is a first-time offender, it’s not clear whether a background check would have prevented the homeowners from operating the day care.

The charge leveled against Price is a second-degree felony punishable by up to eight years in prison.
