Carl Edward McCracken

Carl Edward McCracken passed away Saturday, September 7, 2013, at his home. He was born April 27, 1942, in Kent, Ohio. Carl was the son of the late William E. and M. Margaret (Dorn) McCracken. He resided in Brunswick for 45 years.

Carl owned Western Lakes and worked 11 years in the Parma School District at Hillside Junior High. The students and staff made his years at school rewarding. He graduated from Kent Roosevelt High School in 1960 and attended University of Akron. Carl served in the Ohio National Guard for six years. Even though he enjoyed all athletics, his passion was officiating high school sports. He was a volleyball official for 20 years, football official for 30 years, and umpired baseball and softball for 40 years. Prior to that, he coached his son’s teams. He played, managed and sponsored his softball team until he was 50 years old. For five years, Carl fought a tough battle with cancer. During that time, his grandchildren were shining stars that kept him wanting to live. He also enjoyed traveling to Lake Tahoe, the Mediterranean, California Coast, Florida and Disney, and a trip around the British lsles, where he fulfilled a dream to visit Normandy and Omaha Beach. Carl has been an inspiration to all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Marianne (Raymond) McCracken; his sons, Scott Raymond McCracken of Medina and Ryan Page McCracken of Brunswick, sister, Rose Marie (Posie) (Clarence) (Butch) Cobb of Kent; brother, Robert (Debbi) McCracken of Florida; grandchildren, Kaylee, Nicholas, and Courtney. He is also survived by nephew, Sean (Kristen) McCracken; and two great nieces, Blake and Isabella. Carl leaves sister-in-law and husband, Charles and Nancy (Raymond) Wright; and brother-in-law and wife, Willard and Kay Raymond. Also, he is survived by many nieces and nephews-in-law and great nieces and nephews, who loved him very much.

Family will receive friends Tuesday, September 10, 2013, from 4 until 8 P.M., at Waite and Son Funeral Homes, Brunswick Chapel, 3300 Center Road, Brunswick. Funeral service will be Wednesday, September 11, 2013, 2:30 P.M., at the funeral home, with Reverend Patricia Jefferis officiating. Graveside services will be held Wednesday, September 11, 2013 at 10 A.M., at Mount Pleasant Cemetery on Rt. 84 in Geneva, Ohio.
