Alan honorably served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was a truck driver and retired from C.F. Trucking. Alan loved spending time at Lake Erie, where he enjoyed fishing. He was a member of the NRA and the Medina Riffle Club. He also played violin and was a member of the Medina Orchestra.
Alan is survived by his wife of 59 years, Catherine (Church); daughter, Venis (Robert) Tate; foster daughter, Patricia (Paul) Payne; grandchildren, Jessie (John) Wengerd, Jamie Thomas, Trista and Trina Yarman, Sonja Halstead, Debora Wise, and Stephanie Payne; six great grandchildren; brother, George (Elsie) Ewing; sisters, Beulah (Harry, deceased) Baker, Kay (Nelson) Olrtel, and Jessie (Earl, deceased) Harding; son in law, Brian Thomas.
He is preceded in death by his daughter, Janis Ewing-Thomas; brother, Roland Ewing; sister, Phyllis Layman; grandson, Charles Payne.
Funeral Service will be Thursday, September 19, 2013, at 11 A.M., at Waite and Son Funeral Home, 765 N. Court St., Medina, where friends may call Wednesday, September 18, 2013 from 6 to 8 P.M., at the funeral home.
Private burial with military honors at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
