Rose M. Platz, 81, of Medina, passed away peacefully after a long illness at Hospice of Medina County, Friday, September 27, 2013, surrounded by her family. She was born February 1, 1932 in Brimfield, Ohio, to the late Dominic and Rose (Calcagnini) Scarpellini.
Rose was a longtime 2nd grade teacher for Medina City Schools, retiring after 30 years, and was a member of the Medina Co. Teachers Association. She selflessly volunteered, and was recognized, for her time with the Medina Historical Society and Hospice of Medina Co. Rose loved birds, flowers, gardening, basket making, reading, and playing cards. She graduated from Kent State University, was a member of Kappa Mu sorority, and was a longtime member of Our Lady Help of Christians Parish in Seville. She was a loving wife and a devoted mother and grandmother.
Rose is survived by her husband of 59 years, Roland “Rollie” Wayne Platz; her four sons, Paul (Mary Ellen) of Lowville, New York, Michael of Seville, Andrew (Karen) of Medina, and Matthew Platz of Chippewa Lake; grandchildren, Eileen, Mary, Sandra, Emily, Ryan, Anna and Laura; and her honorary daughter, Char Arthur.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her 13 siblings.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to her “angels” at Emeritus, Hospice of Medina Co., and the Society for Handicapped Citizens for their compassionate care.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 A.M., Tuesday, October 1, 2013, at St. Francis Xavier Church, 606 E. Washington St., Medina 44256. Father Ron Bryda, of Our Lady Help of Christians, will be the Celebrant. The family will receive friends Monday, September 30, 2013, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M., at Waite & Son Funeral Home, 765 N. Court St., Medina. Private family burial will be held at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman at a later date.
