Charles E. Newsome, 84, of Litchfield, entered into rest Thursday, September 26, 2013. Charles, AKA Charlie, was born in Barnesville, Ohio, December 5, 1928, to the late Houston and Emma Newsome.
Charles honorably served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a mechanic and construction worker. He enjoyed working with his hands and spent many hours working on cars, trucks, and tractors. He loved doing various jobs at his church, Strong Tower Christian Fellowship & Ministries. Charles also enjoyed fishing, hunting, and especially gardening.
Charles received a mechanics degree from the Auto and Truck Mechanics School in Cleveland. He was employed as a mechanic at White Motors, Collier Construction, Keifer Construction, and Tractor Supply Company. He also worked for Elm Farm Dairy in Medina and had his own blacktopping business, Newsome Blacktop & Asphalt.
Charles is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Mary E. Newsome (Lee); dear children, Deborah Newsome, Jody Moody, Timothy (Kimberly) Newsome, and Lori Curry; grandchildren, Devon, Todd, Jada, Joshua, Marissa, Shelea, Deonna, and Kyleigh; great grandchildren, Cierra, Shawn II, Aubrey, and Daveon; brothers-in-law, Bernard (Madeline) Curtis, Bruce (Marilyn) Ellis and Mark Union; and daughter-in-law, Tiffany Newsome.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Melanie Newsome; son, Shawn Newsome; son-in-law, Larry Curry; as well as his brothers and sisters.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday October 2, 2013, 10:30 A.M., at Waite and Son Funeral Home, 765 N. Court St. Medina. Reverend Michael R. Wilson will preside over the services. Burial, with military honors, at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, will follow. Friends may call Tuesday, October 1, 2013, from 6 until 8 P.M., at the funeral home.
