Nick married his beloved wife of 57 ½ years, Joyce, on May 13, 1961 after meeting in school at age 14. Nick enjoyed games and was the “head potentate” in Crib and loved competing with Joyce in Scrabble for 50 years. He was a huge Cleveland Browns fan. He held season tickets on the 50 yard line for 17 years, where he saw the 1964 Championship Game with Jim Brown. He golfed for 40 years at Skyland Golf Course and enjoyed the dear friendships he made there. After graduating from Parma Senior High in 1959, he worked at Food Town and became the youngest manager of a Pick-N-Pay Grocery Store (Ridge and Denison) at 21 years old. He owned Beverage Land, with Bob Nall, in North Olmsted and Southland Shopping Mall. Nick eventually retired as a Teamster, working at Knall Beverage Inc., after many years in sales.
Nick is the beloved husband of Joyce (Horak); loving father of Nicholas John, IV, Matthew Curtis (Joanne), Patrick Sean (Donna), Jeffrey Allen (Jennifer), Charles Lawrence (Andrea) and the late Joseph Paul; grandfather of Tess, Tonjia, Chloe, Kate, Julia, Abbey, Noah and the late Heather; great grandfather of Tara; brother of Sunni Lynn and the late Paul.
Nick lived in Medina for 42 years and revered his neighbors. The late Jim Curtice was thought of as a second father, Lt. Col. Tor Dietrichs, was seen as unofficial 7th son, and Jeff Swan was a dear friend.
A celebration of Nick’s life will take place at a later date.
