Driver faces charges after accident

BRUNSWICK — A motorist whose blood-alcohol content tested four times the legal limit attempted to leave the scene of an accident Monday on Pearl Road, police said.

Susan M. Kotaska, 51, of 3087 Junior Pkwy., was charged with operating a vehicle impaired, hit and run, and possession of an open container of alcohol, according to a police report.

Police said her vehicle was rear-ended by a car driven by a juvenile and she tried to flee the scene around 2:45 p.m.

The report said Kotaska was driving away from the scene in her car with rear-end damage when police arrived in the 600 block of Pearl Road.

Another car with front-end damage had pulled into a nearby parking lot. Officers followed Kotaska, but she didn’t stop for them. She eventually pulled into a parking lot, but didn’t stop until police put their cruisers in front of her car and ordered her to stop, the report said.

Officers reported finding opened and unopened bottles of vodka in the car, and Kotaska provided a blood-alcohol sample of 0.364 — more than four times the legal limit.

A passenger in the other car was taken to the hospital and the juvenile driver was charged with failure to assure a clear distance ahead.
