Richard “Jim” E. Henry

Richard “Jim” E. Henry, 83, of League City, Texas, passed away Tuesday, October 8, 2013, after a lengthy illness.

Jim attended Medina High School as a junior in 1947, where he was a member of the basketball team. He graduated from Seville High School in 1948 and played on their basketball, baseball and football teams. He served his country in the U.S. Navy and U.S. Marine Corp for 11 years, leaving as a Staff Sargeant First Class and Senior Marine Drill Instructor. His career spanned many fields, including General Sales Manager for KVVV-TV, in Alvin, Texas; Director of the Office of Emergency Information for the City of Houston from 1962 to 1967; and presently the longtime owner of Budget Bingo, based in League City, Texas. Jim enjoyed photography and was known for his volunteerism, including coaching many youth sports teams throughout his lifetime.

He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Elaine; children, Lauren Salzman (Gary), Lynn Hodges (Frank), Lisa Arnel, Kurt, and Kyle (Carlos Trevino); and grandchildren, Jesse, Nick, Amanda, Spencer, Marissa and Blake.

He is predeceased by his parents, Albert and Elsie Henry.

The funeral service will be held at 12:30 P.M., Saturday, October 12, 2013, at Forest Park East Funeral Home, Webster, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made, in his name, to the American Diabetes Association and to the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
