Driver seriously hurt in Sunday evening crash on 271

GRANGER TWP. — A 21-year-old Lafayette Township woman was seriously injured in a crash with a tractor-trailer on Interstate 271 on Sunday evening.

Jennifer Mikovsky, of the 5500 block of Columbia Road, was driving north when her vehicle veered left into a median east of state Route 94 at about 8:20 p.m., the Medina post of the Ohio Highway Patrol reported.

Mikovsky’s Chevy Blazer overturned in the median and went into the southbound lane, where it collided with a Freightliner tractor-trailer.

Mikovsky was flown by helicopter to Akron General Hospital, where she was reported in serious condition in the surgical intensive care unit Monday evening.

The driver of the tractor-trailer, Manual Prospero, 56, and passenger Ramesh Hemant, 40, were uninjured.

Troopers didn’t know whether Mikovsky was wearing a seat belt. The Blazer did not deploy its airbags in the crash.

Prospero and Hemant, both of Florida, wore seat belts.

Rescue workers from Granger and Hinckley township fire departments and Hinckley police responded to the scene.

I-271 was closed for a couple hours while workers cleaned debris from the roadway.

The crash remains under investigation.
