The Medina Community Recreation Center’s field house will reopen Saturday sporting a quarter-million-dollar new floor.
Kurt Gehring, recreation supervisor, said work would be completed on the field house flooring replacement project Friday. He said two of the courts are finished and two just need a little more paint.
“When they are finished with the field house, they will be moving up to the track,” he said.
Some small portions of the upstairs track will be replaced, Gehring said, but that work will be done mainly at night.
On Wednesday afternoon, workers were removing tape from the completed field house floor, which has four basketball courts.
The field house has been closed since July 22 to replace the 10-year-old floor, which had been deteriorating. The recreation center opened in 2003.
Initially, the field house was supposed to reopen in September, but completion was delayed because the concrete floor beneath the original polyurethane floor was found to be uneven.
Fixing the problem increased the cost of the project from $182,857 to $232,770.
The cost of the project was shared between the city of Medina and Medina Schools. The city leases the recreation center, but the building is owned by the school district.
The contract for the work was awarded to Texas-based Dynamic Sports Construction.
