Richard “Dick” C. Faecking, 67, of Grafton, passed into the loving arms of the Lord on Tuesday, October 15, 2013 surrounded by his family, following a courageous and lengthy battle with brain cancer. Dick was born October 23, 1945 in Brooklyn, to the late Clemence and Carolyn Faecking.
He graduated from Elyria High School in 1963. Dick served in the United States Army from 1965-1967 as a radio operator in Vietnam. He received the Purple Heart, the Bronze Star, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Marksman, Vietnam Service Medal, C.I.B, Vietnam Cross of Gallantryand the National Defense Service Metal. He was a member of the Columbia VFW Post #9340. Dick was retired from the Illuminating Company and presently employed at Wolff Bros. Supply. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, his classic cars and trips to the Smokey Mountains and Outer Banks.
Survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Susan (nee Rourke); daughters, Rachael (Alex) Kamentz and Sarah (Joran) Cottom; son, Robert; grandchildren, Jacob, Thomas, Hallee, Alexa and Carson; and sister, Carol Lyn Faecking.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Alan.
Memorial Gathering for family and friends will be Sunday, October 20, 2013 from 5 to 8 P.M. at the Bauer Funeral Home, 2089 Columbia Road, Valley City. Columbia VFW will provide Military Honors at the funeral home. Inurnment will be 11 A.M., Tuesday, October 22, 2013 at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, Rittman, with Military Rites and Christian Burial Service with Shawn Vallery officiating (please meet at cemetery entrance 15 minutes earlier).
In Lieu of Flowers, The family suggests memorials may be made to Birthcare of Medina, Buses International of Lorain and Hospice of Western Reserve.
