East Smith Road reopened Wednesday after being shut down for nearly two months while workers rebuilt a bridge over the west branch of the Rocky River, just west of River Styx Road, in Montville Township. The road, which was closed to through traffic in early September, was scheduled to reopen Oct. 3, but the project took longer after workers replacing guardrails discovered problems with the foundation. The delay added to the frustration of motorists trying to get to or from Interstate 71 while state Route 18 was repaved. Smith Road runs parallel to Route 18. (DAVID KNOX / GAZETTE)
