Nancy Marie (Luft) Boomhower, 75, of Seville, went to heaven in the arms of Jesus, Tuesday, October 29, 2013, after a year-long battle with cancer. Nancy was born February 12, 1938 in Eau Claire, Wisconsin to Ralph and Hilda Leslie. She graduated from Eau Claire High School in 1955.
She was married to Charles William Boomhower. Nancy was a flight attendant with North Central Airlines for several years, starting in 1957. After first moving to Michigan and then to Ohio, she pursued a Bachelor of Science in Education Degree from The University of Akron, where she graduated in 1973. She also continued her education at The University of Akron with a Master’s in Elementary Education. She went on to have a long career teaching first grade at Brunswick City Schools.
After retirement, Nancy taught GED Education at the Medina County Jail, was an active member of the Medina County Retired Teachers Association, an active member and officer of the Ohio Retired Teachers Association, a member of the Lions Club, a member of The Briarwood Beach Medina County Garden Club and a member of the Seville United Methodist Church.
She loved to travel with her husband, friends and family. Nancy cared for others by adopting families at Christmas, delivered meals for Meals on Wheels, worked to support Habitat for Humanity, beautified the Medina County Jail by planting flowers outside and volunteered at the food pantry in Seville. She was also known as the “crazy plant lady” due to selling plants for many years at the famous Seville Garage Sales. Nancy even dressed up as “Mrs. Claus”, standing beside husband, Chuck, dressed up as “Santa Claus”, for various children’s events.
Nancy is survived by her husband, Charles William Boomhower of Seville; children, Cynthia Kay Luft (Paul) of Sleepy Hollow, New York, Richard Carl Luft, Jr. of Cuyahoga Falls, John Charles Luft of Westfield Township; Elizabeth Ann Seich of North Olmsted; stepdaughters, Vickie Leonard of Akron and Elizabeth Serri (Pete) of Akron; sisters, Patricia Bushland (Roland) of Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, Sandra Steen (Ronald) of Eau Claire, Wisconsin; and brother, James Leslie (Rose Marie) of Eau Claire. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Hilda Leslie; as well as her older brother, Ralph Leslie Jr.
The family would like to sincerely thank all the compassionate caregivers at The Hospice Care Center of Medina.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11 A.M., Saturday, November 2, 2013, at The Seville United Methodist Church, 74 W. Main Street, Seville, with a luncheon to follow.
In lieu of flowers, Nancy has requested that donations be made to either HMC Hospice of Medina County, 5075 Windfall Road, Medina, OH 44256 or Medina County Retired Teachers Scholarship Association made out to Nancy McNeal (Treasurer), 1044 Brimfield Drive, Medina, OH 44256.
A memorial bench will be placed in her honor, at the Gardenview Horticultural Park, 16711 Pearl Road, Strongsville, in the spring, where her ashes will also be scattered.
