ELYRIA — The Columbia Station man who caused the fatal crash last year that claimed the life of Curtis Porter III, of Liverpool Township, has pleaded guilty to aggravated vehicular homicide and drunken driving charges.
The plea agreement Kevin Runyon, 25, reached with prosecutors calls for him to receive a four-year prison sentence later this year. But Paul St. Marie, Runyon’s attorney, said his client will end up only serving one year of the sentence under the terms of the deal.
Runyon’s pickup collided with the back of Porter’s motorcycle on state Route 82 in Eaton Township on May 13, 2012.
The Ohio Highway Patrol reported that Runyon, who had a blood-alcohol level of 0.146, well above the legal driving limit of 0.08, fled the scene of the crash, but returned a few moments later.
“He regrets getting behind the wheel of his truck after consuming alcohol,” St. Marie said. “
It’s a decision he’ll regret for the rest of his life.”
Porter’s family has sued the Route 82 Grill & Saloon, claiming the bar was negligent and reckless in serving alcohol to Runyon the night of the crash.
