Alvin proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was a self published author of 11 railroad books, a talented artist and taught as an art teacher in many schools.
He enjoyed collecting O-Scale trains, polka music and was a member of TCA. Alvin loved nature and was a strong believer in nature conservation.
He will be dearly missed by his beloved wife Marjorie of 62 years; loving children, Craig (Kathy), Jill, Joan and Eric (Debbie) Staufer; treasured grandchildren, Joseph Staufer, Coleen (Donald) Herbe, Jane Staufer, Rachael (Aaron) Nowland, Amanda (Nick) Simpson, Emily Jones, Nathaniel Brianas, William, Andy and Stephanie Staufer; treasured great grandchildren, Aislynn Staufer, Donald Herbe, Jr., Owen and Jack Terzic and Leo and Ava Simpson; and brother, Richard (Vivian) Staufer.
Family will receive friends for a Memorial Visitation Friday, November 8, 2013 from 4 to 8 P.M. at Waite and Son Funeral Home, 3300 Center Road, Brunswick. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, November 9, 2013 at 11 A.M. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Alvin’s memory to the Ohio Veterans Home Hospice, 3416 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky, OH 44870.
