Brunswick resident accused of stabbing his mother

BRUNSWICK — A 56-year-old Brunswick man is accused of stabbing his 77-year-old mother Friday following a domestic argument.

Joseph M. Lopilato, 56, was arrested and charged with felonious assault Friday after police said he stabbed his mother, Katherine Placek, in the arm that morning.

Police said they received a call from Southwest General Hospital about noon Friday reporting that a woman had been brought to the hospital with a stab wound in the arm.

Details about where the stabbing took place and who brought her to the hospital were not available Friday from police.

According to county Board of Elections records, both Lopilato and his mother live in an apartment at 1320 Cross Creek Drive.

Police spokesman Nick Solar said Placek remained at the hospital. An update on her condition was not available from the hospital Friday evening.
