High school football: State semifinal set to be held at Byers Field

Travel has been the least of the Highland football fans’ concerns.

The Hornets will have a short bus ride for the fourth straight playoff game, as they will play Glenville at Parma’s Byers Field in a Division II state semifinal Friday.

The Ohio High School Athletic Assocation announced the site Sunday afternoon.

Highland (13-0) began its postseason by hosting Avon Lake at North Royalton. It then faced Massillon at the University of Akron’s InfoCision Stadium-Summa Field before defeating Avon at neighboring Brunswick Auto Mart Stadium.

The Tarblooders (12-1) have not lost since playing St. Edward in the season opener. They are fresh off a 40-7 demolishing of Madison in the Region 3 championship and own other playoff wins over Brush (35-0) and Bedford (26-12).

Glenville is coached by Ted Ginn Sr., whose son is Carolina Panthers wide receiver Ted Ginn Jr.
