MEDINA — A SWAT team was called in to serve a search warrant at a Medina apartment complex on Abbeyville Road last week where a man was arrested on a drug-trafficking charge.
Tarome Boyd, 20, was arrested Nov. 22 at a Liberty Plaza apartment on a charge of cocaine trafficking, a fourth-degree felony punishable by 1ﾽ years in prison.
The team reported finding a semi-automatic pistol along with suspected crack cocaine and marijuana at the apartment, according to the Medina County Drug Task Force.
Boyd is being held at the Medina County Jail on $25,000 bond.
He was released earlier this month after serving three months in jail on a conviction of receiving a stolen handgun.
The Drug Task Force said Boyd faces additional charges, and others may be arrested in connection with the case.
The SWAT team — the Medina County Tactical Team — includes officers from the county Sheriff’s Office and Medina, Wadsworth, Montville and Medina Township police departments.
The team was called in to handle the warrant because the occupants of the apartment were “known to carry handguns” and to having “a propensity for violence,” according to the Drug Task Force.
Boyd previously made news when he was beaten with a claw hammer by Dayshawn Wheeler, 23, in May 2012. Wheeler was sentenced in June to 12 years in prison for the attack.
