Beating victim identified

LODI — Police have identified the man who was severely beaten last week while staying at the Lodi Motel, 107 Elyria St.

Officers found a bleeding Raymond Watts, 59, in his room shortly before midnight Wednesday.

Someone staying in a nearby room called 911 after hearing Watts yelling for help and finding him bleeding from the head.

Watts, whose address was reported as the motel, was taken to Lodi Community Hospital, where doctors determined his wounds were the result of a fight.

He was moved to Akron General Hospital, where he was treated in the critical care unit. A hospital spokeswoman said Watts was released Monday.

Police reported that blood was found all over the floor in Watts’ room, but there were no signs of a struggle.

Officers did find fresh footprints in the snow around the door to Watts’ room, but a search came up empty.

Watts told police he had “no idea how this had happened to him,” according to the report. “He was not sure if anything had happened to him.”

Officers said Watts appeared to be “extremely intoxicated and could not remember the incident that had taken place. He was also not sure of where he was even at.”

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Lodi police at (330) 725-6631.
