Edwin Lowell Parks, 52, of Raytown, Missouri, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Friday, November 22, 2013. He was born September 9, 1961 to the late JoAnn Parks Ramey and the late Robert “Bob” Parks.
Affectionately known as “Eddie”, he was born in Mt. Sterling, Kentucky, where the family lived for a short time before eventually moving to Chippewa Lake, Ohio. Eddie loved growing up in “Chip”, where he spent summer months playing at the pond or swimming in the lake and winter’s spent ice skating, spirited neighborhood snowball fights and building forts.
Eddie had a free and entrepreneurial spirit and was the proud founder and owner of Ed Parks Concrete Enterprises and Keep It Simple Concrete. Eddie was truly one of a kind. He will be remembered for his charismatic, larger than life personality, his brilliant mind, irresistible charm, illuminating smile, his unforgettably robust and endearing laugh, and most importantly for his kind and generous heart.
From the time Eddie was a small boy he was blessed with boundless compassion for others. He did not see or judge people through the superficial lens of their stature in life. He connected with people on a deeper emotional level. He touched their hearts. For in Eddie’s heart there was no such thing as a stranger, there were simply friends he hadn’t yet met.
Eddie’s children and grandchildren were his greatest joy and filled his heart with immense pride and happiness. He treasured every moment he shared with family and friends. Eddie met and married his wife, Lisa while living in Brownfield, Texas in 1982. They later moved to the Kansas City area and were blessed with two children. Eddie was later blessed with another daughter.
Eddie leaves behind to cherish his memory, daughter, Michelle Parks (Andrew Starr) of Overland Park, Kansas; son, Edwin Joseph “Joee” Parks (Meghan Gunther) of St Louis, Missouri; and daughter, Ciara Parks of Florida; the woman who loved him and held his heart, Brenda Mcfarlin of Roeland Park, Kansas; grandchildren, Lenise Marie and Cain Roeland; step-father, James Ramey, “Pap” of Mt. Sterling, Kentucky; six siblings, Hal Parks (Emma) of Frenchburg, Kentucky, Rhonda Parks (Darrell) of Mt. Sterling, Kentucky, Charlotte Parks (Fert) of Raytown, Missouri, Robin Parks (Kathy) of Canfield, Ohio, Kimberly “Kym” Parks Keller of Texas, and Jennifer Parks of Ohio; many nephews, nieces and other relatives and numerous friends he met along his journey.
Influence of Eddie’s life and encouragement to others will be a flame that will burn brightly forever in the hearts of those he touched and those who loved him most.
A Remembrance Service was held Wednesday, November 27, 2013 at Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors. Interment was at Brooking Cemetery in Raytown, Missouri.
