Building official put on leave to undergo investigation

MEDINA — Medina’s top building official has been placed on paid administrative leave pending a city investigation.

Steve Vogel, who oversees the Building Department, was put on leave Nov. 20, Mayor Dennis Hanwell said Thursday.

Hanwell said he could not comment on details of the investigation because it is ongoing. He did say it was not a criminal matter.

“I can’t comment on the nature of it,” he said. “There are no charges or citations.”

Hanwell said the investigation was being handled by city Law Director Greg Huber.

Hanwell said a letter the city sent to Vogel and placed in his personnel file, sought by a Gazette public records request, would be made available today.

Hanwell said when the investigation is complete and he has reviewed it, it will be made public. He did not have a timeframe in which the investigation will be completed.
