Richard George Allen, 85, of Wooster, formerly of Creston, died peacefully Saturday, December. 7, 2013 at his home, following a lengthy illness. Richard was born January 8, 1928 in Creston, to Floyd and Gayle (McIlvaine) Allen and following the death of his mother was raised by his aunt, Doris McIlvaine.
He was a member of the Creston High School, class of 1945 and served in the U.S. Air Force form 1946 – 1948. He married Jacqueline M. Collins on January 7, 1950 and she preceded him in death on April 24, 2001. He later married Carole Smith Henderlong on February 14, 2002 and she died April 30, 2009.
He retired from the Packaging Corp. of American in 1990 following 45 years of service and was an active member of Creston Presbyterian Church and the Creston American Legion Post 497. He had made his home in Creston most of his life.
Surviving are his six sons and daughters-in-law, Andrew (Meg) Allen of Fairview Park, Daniel (Marj) Allen of Wooster, Lee (Melinda) Allen of Seville, Scott (Jill) Allen of Wooster, Ben (Penny) Allen of Creston and George (Gretchen) Allen of Wadsworth; 14 grandchildren, Becky (Mike) Roberts, Joe Allen, Tad (Kim) Allen, Cathlin (Chad) Bully, Kenneth Allen, Charles (Ashley) Allen, Christopher Allen, Jeremy Allen, Leslie Allen, Michael Allen, Sara Allen, Jackie Allen, Sam Allen and Susanna Allen; great-granddaughter, Piper Allen; and two step-great-grandchildren, William and Dylan Bully.
He was preceded in death by his wives; daughter, Louise in 1966; grandson, Jonathan; and brothers, Charles and Donald Allen.
Services will be Tuesday, December 10, 2013 at 11 A.M. at Creston Presbyterian Church, with Rev. Alice Phillips officiating. Burial will be in Jackson Cemetery. Friends may call one hour prior to services at the Church.
