WADSWORTH — A group of 101 Medina County children spent Saturday at Wal-Mart with police officers, spending $100 gift cards purchased through community donations.

The eighth-annual “Shop with a Cop” event made Christmas merry for the children, age 5 to 12, from underprivileged families across the county.

Money was raised through raffle tickets. Officers from police agencies across the county accompanied the children throughout the store as they made their selections.

Montville police officers said they were glad to be part of the event.

“I like seeing the looks on the children’s faces when they pick out the toys and clothing that they may not have otherwise received for Christmas,” Officer Seth Gaede said.

Officer Ryan Gibbons agreed.

“It’s great to be able to help the community,” Gibbons said, “especially kids who are in need. I’m just happy to be able to help out.”
