Lawrence (Rub) Day Crittenden, Sr., passed away Wednesday, December 4, 2013 at the age of 91. He was born November 2, 1922 in Rochester, Ohio.
He was a 1941 graduate of Westfield High School in LeRoy. A WWII Veteran of the 102nd Division, 405th Regiment, I Company, he was awarded the Combat Infantryman’s Badge, Bronze Star and Purple Heart for action in Germany.
He began working for the Ohio Farmers Insurance Company in 1948. During his employment there he was also the LeRoy Fire Chief, Village Marshall and Constable. After 35 years of service he retired from Westfield Insurance Company as Farm Underwriting Manager of the Central Division. A 32nd Degree Mason of Cleveland (60 years), he was also a member of Harrisville Lodge #137 F&AM, Lodi American Legion Post 523, Medina VFW, Medina Moose, Medina Eagles, and Medina Disabled Veterans.
Surviving are his children, David (Sue) of Clearwater, Florida, Judith (Randy) Seymour of Cincinnati, Nancy (David) Shafer of Wadsworth, Joyce Niehaus of St. Louis, Missouri, Susan Crittenden of Garland, Texas; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Arlene (Kahl); son, Lawrence, Jr.; parents, Ralph (Cleo) and Winnie Day Crittenden; siblings, Raymond, Howard, Neva, Treva, Marion, Helen and Winifred.
Funeral service will be held Saturday, December 14, 2013 at 11 A.M. at the Parker & Son Funeral Home, 210 Medina St., Lodi, (330) 948-1122. Medina County Hospice Chaplain Don Verdell will officiate. Burial with military honors will follow at Westfield Center Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral from 10 to 11 A.M. in the funeral home.
