Our loving dad and grandpa has rejoined the love of his life, his dear deceased wife, Marian. They had 55 wonderful years together and now, once again, are one. Charles and Marian had years of love, laughter and family. Dad ached with loneliness after his dearest Marian passed away in 2004. They were inseparable. Charles was born on May 13, 1924, to the late Raymond and Ada (nee Gallagher) Monroe in Mantua, Ohio. He graduated from Mantua High School in 1942. Charles proudly gave service to his country by serving in the United States Navy as a Seabee in WWII. In 1950, Charles built a log cabin that would become the family home for over 63 years in Brunswick. He worked at Union Commerce Bank, Berea Hardware, Berea Auto Auction and helped his son, Robert, at Medina Motorcars and Toth Buick. Charles was a founding member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Brunswick, where both he and his late wife volunteered numerous hours. He also was a founding and longtime member of the Brunswick/Brunswick Hill Fire Department.
He will be deeply missed by his loving children, Charles Jr. (Mary), Robert (Susan), Loretta (Dennis) Maille, Ronald (Sue), Richard (Susan) and Timothy (Tracy); treasured grandchildren, Charles III (Janeen), James (Dana), Christine (Shawn) Vojtus, Tera, Ronald Jr. (Tracy), Shaun (Brittani) Kelly (Christopher) Pappas, Alan (Rebecca) Maille, Adam (Jessica) Maille, Kevin Maille (fiancé Sydney), Rachael (fiance Tim Wulff), Jennifer (Josh) Lichty, Faith, Richard Jr., Megan, Timothy, Jr. and Tara; 16 cherished great-grandchildren; and sister, Shirley (Richard) Fowler.
Charles’ family would like to thank the staff at Emeritus and Berea Alzheimer’s Care Center for their care.
