Bake sale to benefit boy, 4, with cancer

BRUNSWICK — Brownie Troop 91284 has taken up the cause of helping the family of 4-year-old Quinn Demko, who is battling cancer, by hosting a bake sale Sunday outside Starbucks, 3362 Center Road.

Quinn, whose family is from Brook Park, was diagnosed with a massive brain tumor on Nov. 22 at Rainbow Babies & Children Hospital in Akron.
During surgery, the doctors found that the tumor had attached itself to a main artery.

The Brownie troop decided to help Quinn after viewing a slideshow of the child.

“I had my 7-year-old daughter watch a sideshow video of Quinn’s story and she was moved to tears for a few days. She wanted to help,” troop leader Ginny Reeves said.

“The drive behind this fundraiser is giving not only hope to this family, but giving our children a means to put their hands to work when they see a need in their community; turning their feeling of helplessness into a feeling of hope,” she said.

Baked goods will be sold by donation.

The bake sale will run 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. All proceeds will help benefit Quinn and his family.

There also will be a formal dinner benefit at 4 p.m. at United Auto Workers Local 1250, 17250 Hummel Road, Brook Park.
