House explodes in Elyria

At about 9:45 p.m. Friday, a vacant house at 116 Columbia Ave. in Elyria exploded, creating vibrations that were felt a couple miles away. No injuries were reported. The owners, who now reside in Grafton, according to the Lorain County auditor’s website, did not wish to comment Friday night as they watched firefighters climb over the rubble that was strewn across the street into neighboring yards. The house, with a market value of $103,710, according to the auditor’s website, was destroyed. (KRISTIN BAUER / GAZETTE)
