Poles smashed in separate Montville Twp. crashes

MONTVILLE TWP. — Two drivers damaged telephone poles in separate crashes on Wadsworth Road in Montville Township.

Wednesday, a 2006 BMW driven by Charles Graf, 58, went off the road at 2:20 p.m. and hit a telephone pole across from Fox Meadow Country Club.

Montville Police Chief Terry Grice said Graf was traveling north when a tire caught the edge of the roadway, causing the car to go into the ditch. Graf was not injured. He was cited for failure to control.

In a crash Thursday at 8:53 a.m., Elisabeth Smelser, 35, of Wadsworth, who was driving a 2007 Chrysler Sebring, lost control on a curve on Wadsworth Road north of River Styx Road. The car damaged a pole, almost knocking it over.

Smelser was evaluated by emergency personnel at the site, but was not taken to a hospital. She was cited for failure to control.
