LIVERPOOL TWP. — A firefighter sustained minor injuries while working to put out a fire that spread from a recreational vehicle to a garage at 7662 Neff Road on Tuesday afternoon.
Greg Smith, assistant fire chief for the Valley City Fire Department, said the fire started in an RV, which was completely destroyed, and spread an attached garage, damaging it as well.
Smith said the firefighter was injured when part of the garage roof collapsed while firefighters were working on it.
Smith declined to release the firefighter’s name, and said he was taken to Medina Hospital.
A resident was working on the RV and had a generator and heaters on but was in the garage when the fire started, Smith said. A passer-by alerted him that his RV was on fire, and the fire department received the call at 1:18 p.m.
A cause of the fire has not yet been determined, and Smith estimated that it resulted in more than $150,000 in damages.
The Litchfield Township fire department and Medina Life Support Team also responded to the fire.
