Sam was a carpenter for the former Local 212 for over 50 years. He was proud to serve his country several times during WWII and Korea as a member of the U.S. Army 17th Airborne Division, and recently became an honorary member of the 82nd Airborne Division. He also served in the Ohio National Guard and attended the 50th Anniversary of D-Day in 1994.
He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Patricia (Joyce); brothers-in-law, Robert, Thomas (Elizabeth), Michael (Sandra), and James Joyce; and sisters-in-law, Nora (Terry) Fairbanks and Rosemary (Dave) Losh.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Grace (Shortsleeve) Oldfield; sister-in-law, Carol; and brother-in-law, Martin.
The family will receive friends on Monday, December 30, 2013, from 4 to 8 P.M. at the Waite and Son Funeral Homes, Brunswick Chapel, 3300 Center Rd., Brunswick. A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Tuesday, December 31, 2013 at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, 1088 Ridge Rd., Hinckley with Rev. Joe Mecir officiating. Burial, with honors, will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Brookpark.
