Sam was a carpenter for the former Local 212, now Local 435, for over 50 years. He was proud to serve his country several times during WWII and Korea as a member of the U.S. Army 17th Airborne Division, and recently became an honorary member of the 82nd Airborne Division. He also served in the Ohio National Guard and attended the 50th Anniversary of D-Day in 1994.
He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Patricia (Joyce); brothers-in-law, Robert, Thomas (Elizabeth), Michael (Sandra), and James Joyce; and sisters-in-law, Nora (Terry) Fairbanks and Rosemary (Dave) Losh.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Grace (Shortsleeve) Oldfield; sister-in-law, Carol; and brother-in-law, Martin.
Family will receive friends Monday, December 30, 2013, from 4 until 8 P.M., at the Waite and Son Funeral Homes, Brunswick Chapel, 3300 Center Road, Brunswick. Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, December 31, 2013, 10 A.M., at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, 1088 Ridge Road, Hinckley, with Father Joe Mecir as the Celebrant. Burial, with honors, will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Brook Park.
